Last Day of School

The last day of school is approaching, do you think this is too crazy?

I find it so disgusting how many half used notebooks get tossed into the trash can or recycling bin at the end of the school year during locker clean outs. Even when they are recycled it takes energy to process the notebook paper to make new products. Anyway for those of you who agree with me I have an idea for you. I have done this for years and am trying to get the word out. Let me know if any of you have some other green ideas to share.

I grab as many notebooks as I can find and shove them in my empty back pack on the last day of school. I take them home and rip out all the unused pages, cut off the \"frilly part\" and then I keep a box full of notebook paper for the next school year.

I also grab pencils and pens that I find in the hallway. Although I find these during any day of the school year. You might be grossed out by this one (especially if you see bite marks on them) but I simply wash them with soap and water and disinfect them.

Finally, I like to grab folders. After filling my back pack up with notebooks I can not take the folders home but as long as they are not too beaten up or written on all over I hand them out to my fellow teachers. Teachers are always looking for extra folders to hand out to people who cant afford them or are too lazy to buy them on the first day of school each year.
